Statement
I acknowledge and pay respect to the Wurundjeri people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work in Naarm Melbourne. I pay respect to elders’ past, present and emerging of the Kulin Nation.
Samira Khadivizand’s practice is grounded in painting and expanded approaches to material, space and installation. She explores how experiences that are psychologically present yet physically distant can take form through the process of making. Informed by her diasporic experience, Samira’s work considers states of distance and proximity, belonging and displacement, containment and instability, and the ways these conditions are registered through the body and material.
Biography
Samira Khadivizand (she/her, born. 1983) is an Iranian Australian visual artist based in Melbourne/Naarm. She is a Master of Fine Art graduate, RMIT university. Khadivizand Graduated BA in Theatre Stage and Set Design from Fine Arts Faculty, Tehran University, Iran.
