Statement

I acknowledge and pay respect to the Wurundjeri people who are the traditional custodians of the land on which I live and work in Naarm Melbourne. I pay respect to elders’ past, present and emerging of the Kulin Nation.

Samira Khadivizand is an Iranian-Australian visual artist based in Naarm/Melbourne. Her practice investigates emotional and psychological dissonances rooted in transcultural identity and displacement. Drawing on classical Persian poetry, she employs symbolic visual language and material experimentation to reflect on memory, identity and belonging. Working across painting practices and conceptual forms, Khadivizand creates personal and collective narratives of diaspora -an introspective gaze that extends outward, navigating the tensions of dual nationality and suspended state of being between realms.
