Garment of the Soul

Rooted in my migration and separation from my motherland Iran to Australia, I seek to depict the emotional dissonance and suspended state of being between the two realms. Drawing inspiration from cultures and geographical landscapes, I employ painting practices to create immersive spatial forms and utilising visual abstract to transform my feelings of longing and belonging into symbolic expanded paintings.

The Garment of the Soul is consisted of two mixed media, expanded paintings that explore one of the diasporic complexities. It captures the fleeting moment of emotional attachment to my motherland, Iran. It embodies a state of suspension and spatial liminality that arises from memories and the attachments that span geographical and cultural distances.

The Garment of the Soul represents diasporic being that is explored through a triadic modality of body (form), soul (meaning) and spirit (unseen) drawn from Rumi's poetry based on gnostic concept of human existence and the symbolic meanings of geometric forms and colours in Iranian historical architecture.

The Garment of the Soul is a reflective journey that extends beyond the self, seeking a deeper understanding of our place in the world and the encounters that shape our perception of it.
