Trip to Isfahan, Acrylic on canvas, 121cm x 61cm, 2023

Timeless Past

Timeless Past is a body of work explores themes of memory, displacement, and identity through eleven abstract surreal paintings created with acrylic on canvas (Solo Exhibition, 2023 at Sol Gallery Melbourne/Naarm). The series visualises my personal journey -interweaving past and present- drawing inspiration from old photo albums and negatives from my childhood to photographs taken during my life in Australia and travels after migration. The sequence of paintings begins with deep black backgrounds and faded colours, symbolising the obscured nature of distant memories. As the series progresses, the colours become more vivid, reflecting the gradual emergence of clarity and connection in my present life in Australia. While painting, I find myself existing between the past and the “past-present,” creating a dialogue between what was and what remains.
